SAA Announces Suspension of Services Between Johannesburg and Hong Kong

South African Airways is today announcing the suspension of all services between Johannesburg and Hong Kong from Saturday, 23 November 2022 until and including, 14 December 2019.

This decision has been taken to curb significant financial losses incurred on the route, exacerbated recently by the ongoing political tensions in Hong Kong.

In lieu of the aforementioned, kindly find the Re-Accommodation Policy outlined below to assist with the rebooking of our passengers based on the availability of our Interline Partners;

Assistance for SAA Customers

Assistance will be provided to all ticketed passengers holding a South African Airways Ticket (only).

Customers should refer to the issuing office for assistance. Customers who have booked through a travel agent should contact their travel agent directly. Customers who booked through an SAA International Call Centre should contact the local UK SAA office.

a) Passengers may be re-booked between HKG-JNB and V.V. direct, or VIA below gateways:

1. CX Operation Bookable in:

• Business cabin - J/C/D/I class

• Economy cabin- Y/B/H/K/M/L/V/S/N/Q/O class

• Redemptions allowed in the above classes.

2. CA Operation Bookable in: (via BJS)

• Lowest available booking class by compartment.

3. SQ Operation Bookable in: (via SIN)

• Lowest available booking class by compartment.

4. EK Operation Bookable in: (via DXB)

• Business Class Fares: H/O class

• Economy Class Fares: V/X/T/L class

5. MK Operation Bookable in: (via MRU)

• Lowest available booking class by compartment.

b) Where possible, rebook onto flight(s) operated by any of SAA’s Star Alliance, Codeshare and Interline Partners to transport customers to their final destination with minimal disruption. Lowest available RBD to be booked on Partner carriers in same Cabin.

c) If the customer no longer wishes to travel, then the booking can be cancelled and a full refund (including taxes) will be offered to the original form of payment.

Un-Ticketed Passengers:

All passengers that have not been ticketed will be cancelled.

A) Voyager

(The below will only be applicable to Voyager Redemptions booked in I and X/class. Dynamic Redemptions are handled as per above revenue procedure)

Voyager Ticketed Customers:

• Passengers may be rebooked on CX/KA, CA, SQ and EK subject to the same cabin redemption classes being available. Redemption classes for CA and SQ: X – Economy and I – Business. Redemption classes for EK: N - Economy and D- Business class.

• Voyager will refund and re-instate the Miles of awards for those customers, according to the normal Terms and Conditions applicable when a reschedule or flight cancelation occurs.

B) Other Conditions:

  1. Waivers to this policy will not be made.

  2. This policy is applicable to South African Airways flights between HKG-JNB-HKG only, issued on SA (083) ticket stock and not on separate tickets of other airlines.

  3. Tickets must be re-issued on/before 06 December 2019.

  4. Tickets to be endorsed “INVOL RRTE due HKG SUSPENSION /Date”.

  5. No-show passengers are not eligible for this waiver.

  6. Please ensure that when you rebook a passenger that you comply with the necessary VISA requirements.

  7. SAA reserves the right to amend the policy without prior notice.
